Your Kevo codec is a simple device used to encrypt messages. It has a top panel with three symbols. The bottom panel has eight symbols. It has a primary cord with four beads and a secondary cord with nine beads. You will simply line up one of the symbols on the top panel with one of the symbols on the bottom panel. The panels have a set of two holes on either side of the symbols to thread the cords through locking that set of two symbols together. You can then place any number of beads up to four on the primary cord at Zone 1, 2 or 3. You can then do the same with the secondary cord up to nine beads. Combining the three top symbols, the bottom eight symbols and the different locations of all of the beads, there is a total of 2,823,576 different possible messages in which you can set on your Kevo codec.
At least two people or groups are needed for a Kevo Codec. More is possible, however, the more people who know the meanings of your messages, the more likely it is for your secret messages to be deciphered. No one including the courier should know the meanings to the messages or have access to the ledgers themselves. This prevents espionage and leaking of secret plans if said courier is captured and interrogated. Choose who has the knowledge of these messages wisely.
A minimum of two ledgers (or as many as you are allowing to receive the message) is necessary for each Kevo codec. You can number your symbols however you would like. I used letters for my top panel example and numbers for the bottom to make the explanation clearer to understand. Make sure each ledger and codec is matching. If they are not matching, misunderstandings will occur. The labeling of the symbols is important even if the two Kevo codecs have different symbols on them. It’s the placement and numbering that is most important.
Also ensure all messages are written clearly in the ledgers well before any missions, campaigns or events occurs as to allow each sender and receiver to have their ledgers in hand once the messages are sent.
I recommend that you write as many messages on your ledgers as you can think. Consider every aspect and endeavor as you can think possible. This may be the only means of communication that you and your village, castle, army or family may have once things begin.
Once you are happy with the messages for your ledgers you are set to go. It’s recommended that you practice a few times to see if you are sending and receiving correctly.
Now go out there and send some secret messages. And remember, have fun storming those castles!!! Good luck.
